Avenue Q

It is a Broadway original muppet musical comedy, opened on July, 2003. Prior to opening on Broadway, it extended its scheduled Off-Broadway closing four times by popular demand. Stars of this musical, Muppet is a puppet manupilated by arms and wrists. Same as pupeets appear on both Japanese BUNRAKU and Sesami Street. Although there are differecnes in looks and expressions,? characters in Avenue Q and BUNRAKU could be regarded as distance relatives in their mechanism.

Princeton, a young recent college graduate, who came to New York City with big dreams, discoveres he could only afford a low rent apartment complex ,facing street called gAvenue Q.h It is a story of newcomer Princeton and his nighbors openly satire lifefs struggle like romance, sex and drugs. There are three people and nine character muppets, including Princeton are the nighbors.
The highlight is, without saying, performances by muppets. They point out the lifefs stluggle precisely with rich exspressions. Even the veteran actors could not imitate them.

Themes of Avenue Q are romance, sex and drugs and are very simillar to the popular on-going musical, Rent. In fact, producers of Avenue Q, Kevin McCollum and Jeffrey Seller are also producers of Rent. So, Avenue Q could be called a Muppet comedy version of Rent.

2004 Tonyfs best musical recipient, Avenue Q is starring? by Muppets. It is unique on Broadway.Even Muppets are stars, it is intended for adults. My score is three stars.
