Battery Park

This park is located at the extreme south edge of Manhattan Island and is where one boards the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Immigration Museum which is where immigrants from Europe landed in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The shell of Castle Clinton is in the Park. This was originally constructed as a fortress to protect the harbor, and later became the first place where immigrants landed before Ellis Island was created.
